Sinopse

The obliviousness of Armando Lacerda's (1924-1980) name within the history of art in Pernambuco is a phenomenon that is difficult to explain and described by the author as "an artist wronged historically". He was one of the pioneers of modern sculpture in Pernambuco, alongside Abelardo da Hora (1924-1914) and Corbiniano Lins (1924-2018), all three born in the same year. Known, awarded, and praised in the 1950s, he disappeared in the following decades from the press. He never received a closer look from art critics, even though he was the creator -- even if clothed in the unfair anonymity that hovers over the authorship of public sculptures -- of the monumental and popular statue of Father Cícero, in Juazeiro do Norte (CE), the Cabeça de Ascenso Ferreira, in Recife (PE), and the Monumento a Ludugero e Otrope, in Caruaru (PE). In this book, a precious work of research and rescue by Carlos Newton Júnior, it is finally possible to learn more about the life and work of this essential (albeit hidden) name of modern sculpture in the state. With a preface by Anco Márcio Tenório Vieira.
