"The Valongo Wharf, in the central region of Rio de Janeiro, is a silent landmark in Brazilian history. Between 1774 and 1831, Valongo was the place in the Americas where the most Africans disembarked in the history of modern slavery: approximately one million people. Silvana Jeha and Braziliano present a graphic narrative that explores the importance of this place, intertwining fiction and historical research, past and present. Zola is pregnant when she is kidnapped by slave traders. Her son, Maithica, is born on the slave ship during the Atlantic crossing.
