Sinopse

An epistolary novel with letters by the Portuguese Fradique Mendes. Through his union with Ana Olímpia, an Angolan aristocrat, he eventually has a daughter. The book foregrounds the transatlantic matrix between Angola and Brazil. Fradique, as the novel progresses, identifies more and more with Angola, then Brazil, and becomes a fervent abolitionist.
